Event description

Description

Though the installation’s title of Dúinín refers to the place where it was filmed on Dingle’s Slea Head peninsula, the narrative relates to a tragic story of a young woman. This was 1950s rural Ireland — a difficult place for many and in particular women. It was a story that I had turned over in my mind many times — I had imagined her crossing through the fields, and the rough terrain, around her home in the middle of the night and the sense of hopelessness that must have endured!
It was a story that I wanted to tell through the medium of the landscape. The landscape for me is a central character to the work and the model is seen as a motionless figures that represents a scene from a story or from history. The narrative emerges through a three-panel installation with a complex overlay of history, geography, myth, memory and contemporary detail.
