Event description
Dulwich Festival Choir Night is back, and in a new venue. A trio of London choirs entertain you with their own unique performance styles.

About this Event

Scientific studies show that singing is incredibly beneficial for your health and singing in choirs helps release neurochemicals that aid pain relief, as well as breaking down social barriers and calming the mind. Observe, as we put these claims to the test in a new venue for this event, now entering its second decade at the Dulwich Festival. Three London choirs in a controlled performance in the auditorium at Dulwich college's science Laboratory. The evening is hosted by Tongue & Groove, an amateur performance choir based in the heart of East Dulwich who made their successful debut at the festival in 2018

Tongue and Groove’s Musical Director Simon David brings a theatrical approach to pop songs as well as some, soon to be classic, contemporary musical theatre pieces. Formed from local enthusiastic amateurs, you have probably met them shopping on Lordship Lane or waiting for the 185 bus and not realised they had hidden talents. www.tongueandgroove.london

Our second choir, Vocallective, are a friendly, non-audition choir approaching its tenth anniversary. They sing a range of genres, specialising in classic pop. They are very proud that their eclectic repertoire is as diverse as their membership. They aim to keep raising the bar and challenging themselves, but always have fun in rehearsals and love performing to showcase our hard work. Vocallective rehearse on Tuesday evenings in Forest Hill and offer welcoming free taster sessions. For more information, see www.vocallective.london

The Wrablers complete our line-up. They are a mixed voice a cappella ensemble. Many of them have been singing together for nearly fifteen years in other formations, but they have been singing as Wrablers since 2011. They began as a spelling mistake – a little typo in the notes of their first meeting as a singing group, Warblers morphing unnoticed into Wrablers. Once spotted, they realised it was apt; they can be a rabble, on occasion, and warbling’s much too cutesy a term for what they do.Their repertoire ranges from the current to the classic. Most recently they’ve sung a collection of songs from the Great American Songbook, songs from the Summer of Love, and a festival of folk. The Wrablers rehearse every other week in Southwark and are looking for new soprano and tenors to join them. www.wrablers.co.uk
