Event description

Description

The Dumfries & Galloway Annual Tourism Conference in partnership with VisitScotland and Dumfries & Galloway Council is an integral part of Business Week and will be held on the 3 October at Easterbrook, Dumfries.

Last year’s Business Week was the most successful to date with over 860 local businesses attending events all over the region. The addition of this conference to the packed programme highlights the importance of tourism as more than a holiday experience: it creates jobs and sustains communities in every corner of Scotland all year round and is at the heart of the Scottish economy.

In 2018, Scotland puts its young people in the spotlight, celebrating their talents, contributions and creating new opportunities for them to shine. Led by the Scottish Government, the year will give young people in Scotland the opportunity to show the world what they’re made of.

VisitScotland will lead on the tourism and events programme for 2018 and this years’ conference is the perfect opportunity to celebrate and discuss the power of young people within the Dumfries & Galloways tourism industry. How can your business benefit from and invest in the future of our young people both as workforce and customers?

We will also celebrate the achievements over the last year and the exciting new product developments ahead.

Our inspirational speakers include:

  • David Cochrane from Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland who will give an insight into their talent scholarship programme and how they ‘inspire individuals in the industry to be the best they can be’.

  • Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust Development Director Cathy Agnew will share the latest news from the £7milion project which, inspired by the cultural legacy, heritage and history of Moat Brae, is creating a National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling.

  • Richard Herman from Galloway Activity Centre will discuss how they deliver inspiring experiences for young people that allow them to unlock their potential, how they recruit and retain enthusiastic young people into the business and what it means to offer industry training that unlocks the adventure sports industry as a career option for young people.

We will end the day with a Q&A panel and the chance for you to ask any questions to industry leaders.

Lunch will be provided and you will have some fantastic opportunities to network with your fellow tourism colleagues and young rising stars throughout the day.

This is a free event open to all tourism businesses and event organisers in Dumfries & Galloway –
