Event description
Duty of Candour and Breaking Bad News in Maternity

About this Event

Healthcare professionals have a duty to apologise and provide an explanation of events to patients when things do not go well. Doctors have to also break bad news at times. Having the skills to do this is so very important so that the healthcare professional has been open and honest with their patient and has fulfilled all that is required for good medical practice.

Learning to do this in a sensitive manner requires skill.

This evening seminar will teach essential communication skills when conducting a duty of candour and when breaking bad news.

The evening session will be led by Miss Jacqueline Bamfo and Miss Jasmine Leonce. Miss Jacqueline Bamfo is a Consultant Obstetrician and Sub-specialist in Fetal Medicine and Lead for Fetal Medicine and Antenatal Screening in her NHS role. Miss Jasmine Leonce is Clinical Director of Obstetrics and has Special Interest in Fetal Medicine.
