The Arts Council of Wales has expectations relating to the Welsh Language from organisations and projects that receive funds from the Council. This is to ensure that the Welsh Language isn’t treated less favourably than the English Language in Wales.

This training will help to make it clear to organisations what their duties are in relation to the Welsh language. We will help you to evaluate your current use through a self-assessment questionnaire and will share some practical ideas and guidelines for developing your Welsh Language Schemes or Welsh Language Action Plans.

By the end of the course learners will be able to:

•Understand the historical and contemporary Welsh language context

•Understand the legislative and public policy situation in Wales

•Understand the relevance of the Welsh language to their customers and service users

•Describe the advantages of the Welsh language within the arts and culture sectors

•Evaluate their organisation’s current use of the Welsh language

•Plan some initial steps towards developing their organisation’s use of the Welsh language

•Assist with the process of creating a Welsh Language Plan in order to put a plan in place to develop the organisation’s use of Welsh
