Description

Ilora Finlay

Organised in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Further venue details will be sent nearer the time of the event.

Baroness Finlay will draw on her decades of experience caring for thousands of people in Wales to address how we as a society cope with dying. She will signpost the audience to legal changes in recent years that empower decision making, including changes in medicine that respect the importance of viewing the whole patient as a person in the context of their family and lifestyle, rather than just focusing on the disease. She will address difficult and complex decision at the end of life, how we talk to children about death and bereavement and the social impacts of children’s experiences.

Professor the Baroness llora Finlay of Llandaff FLSW is an internationally renowned expert in palliative medicine, who developed a postgraduate course that has taught over 2,000 doctors in the field. Her work has been highly influential on government policy in areas including bereavement in children, organ donation, prisoner care and smoking in public places. She is a Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, and recently took up the post of Chair of the Board of Governors at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She is Co-Chair of Living and Dying Well, which researches and analyses the evidence surrounding the end-of-life debate.

Baroness Finlay is a distinguished Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.

Trefnir y digwyddiad hwn mewn partneriaeth â Phrifysgol Caerdydd Metropolitan.

Caiff manylion y lleoliad eu hanfon yn agosach at y digwyddiad.

Bydd y Farwnes Finlay yn tynnu ar ddegawdau o brofiad yn gofalu am filoedd o bobl yng Nghymru i drafod sut rydym ni fel cymdeithas yn ymdopi gyda marwolaeth. Bydd yn cyfeirio’r gynulleidfa at newidiadau cyfreithiol dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf sy’n grymuso penderfynu, gan gynnwys newidiadau mewn meddygaeth sy’n parchu pwysigrwydd ystyried y claf cyflawn fel unigolyn yng nghyd-destun ei deulu a’i ffordd o fyw, yn hytrach na chanolbwyntio ar y clefyd yn unig. Bydd yn trafod y penderfyniad anodd a chymhleth ar ddiwedd bywyd, sut rydym ni’n siarad gyda phlant am farwolaeth a phrofedigaeth ac effaith gymdeithasol profiadau plant.

Mae’r Athro the Baroness llora Finlay o Landaf FLSW yn arbenigwr o fri rhyngwladol mewn meddygaeth liniarol, a datblygodd gwrs ôl-raddedig sydd wedi dysgu dros 2,000 o feddygon yn y maes. Mae ei gwaith wedi cael dylanwad mawr ar bolisi’r llywodraeth mewn meysydd yn cynnwys profedigaeth plant, rhoi organau, gofal carcharorion ac ysmygu mewn mannau cyhoeddus. Mae’n Ddirprwy Lefarydd Tŷ’r Arglwyddi, ac yn ddiweddar ymgymerodd â swydd Cadeirydd Bwrdd Llywodraethwyr Prifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd. Mae’n Gyd-gadeirydd Living and Dying Well, sy’n ymchwilio ac yn dadansoddi’r dystiolaeth ar y drafodaeth ynghylch diwedd oes.

Mae’r Farwnes Finlay yn Gymrawd nodedig Cymdeithas Ddysgedig Cymru.
