About this event

The Licensing Act 2003 makes it a legal requirement for all retail sales of alcohol to be authorised by a Personal Licence holder. In addition, all premises licensed to sell alcohol must have a Designated Premises Supervisor in place, who is a Personal Licence holder. In order to obtain a Personal Licence one of the requirements is the holding of a recognised licensing qualification.

We are accredited with Highfield to deliver the Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) the qualification required for obtaining a personal licence for the retail sale of alcohol. Other training providers are available – you do not have to use our services.

The course is aimed at supervisors, managers and owners of businesses who will be required to authorise the sale of alcohol to other staff members. It is also suitable for those wishing to refresh their knowledge and receive updates on changes to licensing law.

Topics you will cover on the course are as follows:

  • Licensing law
  • Personal licences
  • Premises licences
  • The protection of children
  • Powers and enforcement
  • Temporary events
  • Responsible alcohol retailing

You should expect to spend 4-5 hours completing the course content.

This is a full e-learning package where you will undertake all components fully remotely using Highfield's learning applications. Once enrolled, you will be able to progress through the e-learning at your own pace. You will also have access to an electronic copy of the course handbook and test your knowledge with a mock exam. Support will be available through Highfield as well as one of the nominated tutors, who will be an experienced licensing officer.

Important information:

Once you pay for the course please be advised you will not be able to access the course content immediately. After you make payment the course tutor will register your details with Highfield who will then send you joining instructions. We will aim to issue this within 5 working days. Please check your spam or junk mail folders before contacting us.

You will only be able to take the exam after you have finished the e-learning component. Once this has been completed you will need to contact the course tutor who will arrange booking the exam with you.

In order to take the exam remotely please note there are a number of requirements for taking the exam at home. You will need access to a PC or laptop with a sufficiently large screen and have a stable internet connection. You will also need a camera, such as that on a smartphone, so the invigilator can monitor you throughout the exam.

If you are buying multiple registrations please be advised we will need an individual e-mail address for each learner. Once you place your order we will be in touch within 5 working days to confirm these details with you. Following this the learners will be added to the Highfield Learner Management System.

Requests for refunds after payment is made may attract a small fee to cover Eventbrite's processing fee.
