Event description

Description

This course aims to give an overview of what it means to be 'EAL', looking at where our EAL pupils come from and the challenges they face as they start a new life in the UK. We'll also look at what it's like to start to learn a new language and the progress our pupils go through as they acquire English as an additional language. We'll attempt to clarify the myths and misconceptions, and to develop empathy. We'll talk about setting up a welcoming environment for pupils and families, especially in the early stages.

Please note: This course is aimed at non-teaching staff in all schools (eg Governors, parent helpers, admin staff etc).

This course is free to non-academy schools in the Wigan area. There is a chargeof £40 per delegate for academies. Please contact the organiser for more information.
