Event description

Description

Following the unprecedented impact made by climate change activists such as Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion around the world, Parliament responded by declaring a climate emergency in May 2019.

The following month Parliament passed into law a UK target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest. However, according to the independent Committee on Climate Change, the Government is significantly off-course to meet our interim targets for 2023-27 and 2027-32.

I therefore believe the UK should adopt more urgent and radical climate targets to reflect the ambition we need to see off this threat. Setting targets by itself, though, is not enough. We must also act to reach those targets.

In this unique climate summit, we will be discussing why we need fundamental change and how we will achieve it. Across panel discussions, group activities and Q&A sessions, we will also be hearing from those climate campaigners who are leading the fight against the ecological disaster facing us.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 18th January!
