ENABLING EARLY COMMUNICATION SKILLS - AS PART OF EMERGENT LITERACY: RESEARCH BASED UNDERSTANDING OF ENGAGING ENVIRONMENTS, EY PRACTICE & PROVISION WHICH MAXIMISES SLC SKILL POTENTIAL.

Led by experienced Early Years Teacher, EY Trainer & HE Lecturer (FdA Early Childhood) Hannah O'Donnell, this NEW Early Years CPD workshop aims to look at how to enable early communication skills, through planning for excellent core play provision, assessing the learning environment and enhancing staff interactions.

This course aims to look BEYOND the 'intervention' and use impactful research to support childrens' best outcomesin terms of them developing key communication skills for later academics, life and learning.

The Workshop will address the importance for early communication skills, based on key up to date research, for later development and learning skills, as well as how these ultimately impact upon a child's achievement and reaching their unique potential.

It will also put core knowledge and research into easy to understand, cost-effective practice, in order to maximise opportunities for communication skill development through child led play, as well as staff interactions and looking at the play environment as a whole.

EEY aims to offer excellent, inspiring, cost-effective options for CPD, adding value for the practitioner, and overall setting/ school EY pedagogy, as well as focusing on the skills needs of unique children, allowing them to thrive.

NB - Please note that the course is not designed to address individual or specialised SLC needs, EAL needs requiring additional support, nor replace SL therapy already in place. It will also not just provide a list of staff interventions for SLC skills development with children, but rather GREATER opportunity for impactful change overall.

However, the course will be relevant to all children, including those with EAL and SLC needs and aims to add additional CPD value to generic SLC skill advice already in place, in terms of deconstructing the EY environment, play provision and also staff practice, based on the most recent research, in order to provide extra tools & points of reflection for practitioners, to inspire enhancement in their schools and settings, allowing young children to thrive and learn.

COURSE DETAILS:

Who is the workshop aimed at?

This Course is suitable for Early Years Practitioners, L2 upwards, EY Students, EY Managers, EYTs, Reception Staff teams, TA's, Child-minders, Nursery and Preschool Teams, SENDCos and anyone working with young children, 0-5years.

Course Outline:

* A simplified developmental basis for healthy communication skill development - brain and body and why SLC skill opportunities are essential as young children's brains grow and develop - to increase comprehension, imagination, Emotional intelligence, independence, creativity and potential for future academic acheivement.

* Deconstructed understanding of 'communication skills' concepts, based on developmental and neuroscience research, (such as receptive language, spoken language, gesture, emotional expression etc) and how these link to the EYFS, later learning and life outcomes.

* Identifying and assessing the EY ENVIRONMENT using a range of available measures to support effective use of space, provision and layout - which can enhance opportunities for early communication skill development and engagement.

*The role of effective PROVISION to enhance communication skills opportunities, including lots of ideas.

* Educator role in supporting early Communication skills in and what this looks like, based on recent research, supporting inclusive practices and those which provide greater opportunities for those children who are at risk of SLC skill difficulties.

*Supporting parents' understanding of early communication skills in PLAY.

Please note: The course is split across 3 parts in order to allow delegates to gain the most from the information, learning, reflection and their final participation

Part 1 - Course pre-notes : Pre-event course notes (released 1 x week via online link/ email prior to the course for you to do in your own time and support your understanding of the final session); FULL notes given after session via PDF.

Part 2 - Reflections: A voluntary reflective practitioner question & planning document .

Part 3: A live 1 hour course session (in limited group size) with the course leader and other delegates to put the learning into practice - this will be on a given date / time for you to access online and join and the link will be given upon sign up to/ payment for the course. Q and A can also be given at this session.

Course references will also be given at this session - for extra reading and useful support and the opportunity for feedback and a CPD certificate of attendance.

Led by experienced Early Years Teacher (0-5), EY Trainer & Associate Lecturer (FdA Early Childhood/ BA (Hons), Professional Development - Childhood Studies/ FdSc Health and Social Care) - Hannah O'Donnell (BA Hons (Psych), EYTS, PgDip EY (Dist)):

EEY aims to offer excellent, inspiring, cost-effective options for CPD, adding value for the practitioner, and overall setting/ school EY pedagogy, as well as focusing on the skills needs of unique children, allowing them to thrive. Since 2016, EEY has been delivering training across the South West to schools, settings, hubs etc, as well as being part of the Play 2 team, holding Early Years conferences and training, based around the power of play in learning. Now online also - training has been accessed from abroad and further reaches of the UK!

Booking:

Please book your space(s) ONLINE with Eventbrite. All bookings and payments MUST be received prior to event start date. Thank you. Invoices may be requested via email after booking (tick pay by cheque), but at the Organiser's discretion.

Internet/ online access.

You will require internet access to access the link on the day. If you experience any difficulties with this prior to or on the day, which are the fault of the organiser, you will be offered the chance to undertake the final part of the course again on the next available date. If you suffer technology issues - please contact the organiser directly to discuss options.

Further internet (zoom) joining details for the session will be given upon payment and booking completion (approx. 3 days before event start).

Refunds/ unable to access or attend:

Refunds are not generally available, as these are limited group booked events. Where access or attendance is disrupted due to exceptional unforeseen circumstances, the Event organiser reserves the right to offer an alternative date for training or refund if available. This is done on an individual basis only at sole discretion of the organiser. Please let the organiser know at the earliest point if you cannot attend. You are welcome to allow a colleague to attend on your behalf, but must make the Organiser aware, to ensure they gain access to the meeting room Zoom.

If you experience technical difficulties , then at the organiser's discretion again you may be offered alternative arrangements.

If unforeseen circumstances interrupt the training session for the organiser, then you will be notified at the earliest point and contacted to re-schedule the date or offered a refund.

PLEASE NOTE: ONLY those with a paid for place as attendees with the given email will be invited in to the closed group online session , as part of privacy practices.

Email details will be used for sending out CPD certificates at the latest, 10 days post the event and then details are no longer kept.
