Demystifying Engineering

What is engineering and why is it so important?

In this training session, House of Objects will share its successful techniques and approach to developing STEM projects with young children. Participants will learn how to set up simple and engaging engineering workshops to inspire STEM learning in the classroom. Suitable for anyone working with children aged 3 to 11 years.

All participants will receive a free bag of materials to take away and selection of STEM challenges to try in the classroom.

What is STEM? Why is STEM suddenly so important? How can I teach STEM if these aren't my knowledge areas? How can we do STEM projects on limited budgets?

13.00 – Arrivals and refreshments

13.15 – An introduction to House of Objects and our engineering projects.

13.30 – How creative are you? Game and ice breaker.

13.45 – Demystifying engineering. What is it and why is it important?

14.00 - Engineering group challenge

14.30 – Innovation group challenge.

15.00 – Discussion – what is the innovation process?

15.15 - Inspirational innovation story (video )

15.30 - Plan an activity to try and select a free bag of materials to take away.
