Event description
An early morning bird-spotting walk around the woods, lakes and scrubland of Willows Farm.

About this event

Turn off Coursers Lane into Willows Farm, following the drive as it bends right and left, then forking right. Look for the sign “Car Parking, Coach Parking and Disabled,” turn right here (often called Car Park 1) and go to the far end where it should be quietest.

The walk will be 2.5 miles long, generally on level ground but with a few potentially muddy sections. We should see kestrels, woodpeckers and nuthatch, plus ducks and herons on the lakes. We'll pass the pylon where a peregrine falcon is sometimes spotted.

A late breakfast might seem like a good idea. Suggestions, such as the cafe at Aylett Nurseries, would be welcome.

The event is free but a voluntary donation of £2 per person is suggested.

All welcome, whatever your level of birdwatching knowledge. Bring suitable clothing and footwear for the weather, especially if it has been raining in previous days.

It will go ahead if it is raining. Call Rob on 07512 704744 for further details.

Please note, due to COVID-19, we will be using these procedures:

  • We will not be able to share optical equipment so bring your own binoculars and telescopes.
  • We will aim to maintain 2m distances while walking.
  • All people attending the walk should book individually using Eventbrite so that we have a complete record of contact details to be used for Track & Trace purposes. We will keep contact records for 21 days, and delete records after that time.
  • If you have displayed Coronavirus symptoms in the 24 hours before the walk, please do not attend, and follow Government self-isolation advice.

Little owls are sometimes seen at Willows and there is a colony of tree sparrows that are just about surviving.
