Friends Who Are Going
Event description

The 2017 Early Years Conference is an invaluable resource for families with young children with hemiplegia (aged 0 - 5). Parents, carers and extended family will attend talks and workshops from professionals and those with first-hand experience of the effects of Hemiplegia.

"I didn’t know where to turn to and what to do before attending the conference, but now I know there is a lot of help and support available that we need to find out about, and that has helped a lot with my confidence."

You will have the opportunity to get advice and ask questions covering multiple aspects of nurturing a child with Hemiplegia, from therapy to school and social ramifications.

  • An overview of hemiplegia, including associated physical and less visible effects

  • Physiotherapy in the management of hemiplegia

  • Useful tips and support for starting school

  • Personal experiences of growing up with hemiplegia

  • Inter-parent chat, where you can both seek and provide support to the other attendees

The day itself will be structured with two breaks, to aid the digestion of information – and biscuits. Lunch will also be provided for what will likely be quite a busy day.

Registration is at 10am with talks to start promptly at 10:30am - the day will close at 3:30pm.

For those families who may need it a creche service will be available* although where possible, we would encourage parents/carers to leave children at home with family or friends so that you can fully concentrate on the conference

*There will be a professional on-site creche available for those who have pre booked creche tickets, Places for the creche are limited so please book early to confirm your child's place. Please note the creche facility is for children up to the age of 9 years only. Unfortunately we are unable to cater for children over this age at this event. Creche services provided by Tinies.

What people have said from attending previous Early Years events by HemiHelp

“This is a great event because I had never even seen another person with hemiplegia. It is really good to meet other people in the same boat.”

"One of the most important aspects of the conference was that it gave us a sense of community which was really important, to have a peer community who are sharing the experience. Very tender hearted and really uplifting."
