“The outdoor space and curriculum must harness the special nature of the outdoors, to offer children what the indoors cannot.”
Shared Vision and Values for Outdoor Provision in the Early Years (2004)
The outdoor environment can provide children with experiences that are direct, meaningful and highly motivational by drawing on what they really want to know about and do. Provision should also capitalise on the way the outdoors enables young children to learn through active, sensory-rich play that incorporates all areas of learning and development.
This conference will consider six major ingredients of outdoor provision, which together offer a rich menu of possibilities for discovery, thinking, interaction and play in any outdoor setting. Participants will explore how the wonderful potential of the outdoors can be harnessed to enable children’s learning through active, sensory-rich play that incorporates all aspects of learning and development.
