Event description

Description

Have you ever wanted to take part in an archaeological dig? Do you think you can find the find to beat all finds?

This archaeological dig will build upon a trial excavation undertaken in 2014 as part of the Living Lomonds Landscape Partnership programme. The excavation produced previously unknown and unrecorded evidence of human activity around the summit of East Lomond in Fife. The results of the 2014 exercise showed that the hillfort appears to have been refortified during the Pictish period and the main trench produced the remains of a kiln for small scale metal working, and a horse’s bridle bit – both indicators of high status occupation of the hillfort.

We will be returning to the main trench area for this dig - what more will we find??

If you want to be part of this dig then here's what to note...

  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • You will be working outdoors, possibly in inclement weather so you will need to wear warm, waterproof clothing.
  • Walking conditions will be challenging over rough moorland so please bring sturdy footwear.
  • Bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinking water.
  • Digs are open to anyone aged 16+. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Location: Lomond Hills Regional Park. This is signposted off the A912 a couple of minutes east of Falkland village. National Grid Reference: NO 25205 05820.
