Event description

Description

You are invited to connect, share and learn from each other at the East of Scotland Network Gathering in Perth in the New Year (please note the change of date to 30th January 2019).

When we speak of ‘lived experience’ it’s often referring to those using mental health services, or who draw on their lived experiences within their work roles. It is encouraging to see now how often discussions about recovery and wellbeing are engaging those who work in services.

Lived experience brings people together through our commonalities, rather than the roles we occupy in life. Through our work we are learning that there is no ‘us and them’ when it comes to mental health and wellbeing, ‘it’s all of us’. Our experiences may differ, but we have more in common to speak about. Whether you use services, are a family member/friend and/or work in services, this event is for you.

We are preparing a programme which will include opportunities to discuss the following topics:

  • Peer support groups
  • Peer networks
  • Organisations and lived experience
  • How lived experience is influencing services/local strategy

Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in one of a range of workshops. There are a couple of examples below. Watch this space for more workshop announcements!

It’s All About You!

James Kenneday from Angus Health and Social Care Partnership will encourage people to take a self reflective exploration of their own mental health and wellbeing. An understanding of the six elements of wellbeing, to ask ourselves if we use our lived experience to be self critical of self compassionate, and if we truly value ourselves or take ourselves for granted. Plus the opportunity to play wellbeing JENGA!

Peer 2 Peer

This session is an opportunity for people involved in facilitating Peer 2 Peer and other peer-led training to connect with each other and look at creating a community of practice. There are now a number of courses being delivered across the East of Scotland with a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.

SRN are committed to ensuring that people have equal access to events and will provide reasonable travel expenses to those on a ‘low income’.
