Event description

Description

Our Farm & Forest School is back for the Easter Holiday!

What's in store...

Two days of outdoor fun for 5-8 year olds* on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th April 2019. Each day runs from 10am-3pm.

Day 1 is at The Community Farm, a beautiful Organic farm with yurt, over-looking Chew Valley Lake. We'll be exploring the fields, picking and tasting, planting and getting stuck into a natural craft project for the kids to take home. We'll explore the new life in our pond by doing some dipping and explore what other life we can find by tracking, mini beast hunting and worm digging.

Day 2 is held in a nearby private wood in Chew Stoke. In Forest School style, this day will be very much child-led with opportunities to climb trees, play on the rope swing, trapeze and hammock. They'll also have the opportunity to practice using a striker to light a fire (if the weather isn't too damp) and we'll also harvest natural materials and learn how to use hand-tools for their own woodcraft project. We'll cook snacks over a campfire, play woodland games and have fun :-)

It's the perfect antidote the the school classroom!

In addition to facilitating planned activities we always ensure that the days are also very child-led, encouraging them to explore, play, make and learn, both independently and together as a group.

NB. If your children have attended previous Farm and Forest Fun days with us, rest assured that we always run new activities to keep it fresh and exciting and in-line with the seasons.

Parent feedback:

"Flo had great fun and chatted non stop about each day when she got home. She is very proud of her achievements, particularly the cooking, learning to saw wood and make a necklace, the campfire, popcorn and making the den - she clearly really enjoyed herself. Very inspirational..."

* Age-range

This event is for children aged 5-8 years old however we do welcome siblings that fall slightly outside this age-bracket. We always work with a maximum of 10 children and a small age-range to ensure that activities are made hands-on and achievable for the whole group.

Can't commit to two days?

We encourage parents to book two days since this really helps the children build in confidence, build a relationship with one another and with us as facilitators. If you are unable to commit to both days we do offer one-day bookings, subject to availability. Email Claire@getearthwise.co.uk to register your interest for a one-day booking.

Facilitators

The sessions will be facilitated by Claire Rosling and Johanna Bohlen. Claire is the founder of Earthwise and has run Farm & Forest Fun sessions for the last 5 years in partnership with The Community Farm. Claire also runs the educational visits and children's activities at The Community Farm. She has over 6 years experience of leading Forest School sessions and also runs seasonal Family Natural Craft days and Family Pick & Cook days at The Community Farm. Claire is DBS checked, paediatric first aid qualified and is Food Safety trained.

Johanna is also Forest School trained and DBS checked. Alongside her work with Earthwise she also currently works in an outdoors nursery and as a childminder.

FAQ

Do I drop children off or do parents stay?

Parents drop children off for both days. Timings of both days are 10am-3pm.

  • Siblings are entitled to a 10% discount on bookings. Please use the code Sibling

Toilet Facilities

Since the Forest School (Day 2) is out in the wild woods we have no permanent toilet facilities on site and so will be providing a temporary, private (and hygienic) latrine that we will show children how to use. A great skill to learn for wild camping! Hand-washing facilities will be provided. A portaloo and handwashing is provided at the farm (Day 1).
