Event description

Description

A day of cycling fun for the whole family!

We have children's cycle sessions scheduled throughout the day (see timings below), Dr Bike and community wardens on hand to check the whole family's bikes and security mark them, and a bike treasure hunt for small groups to try to win prizes. You can also make yourself a pedal-powered smoothie on our smoothie bike, and learn how to fix a puncture!

11am- 11.45am: Bikeability Balance (Ages 2-4)
This session is for young children to master the art of balancing and gliding, making it an easy transition to a pedal bike without the need for stabilisers. Please bring along your own balance bike and helmet if you have them - we have a small number available to borrow. Parents need to be present and take responsibility for children - the track is an open space and will also be used by members of the public during the session.

12noon - 12.45pm: Bikeability Learn to Ride (Age 5+) + EXTRA SESSIONS ADDED 1.30pm and 2.30pm
This session is for children who aren't quite pedalling unassisted yet. Please bring along your own bike in roadworthy condition (without stabilisers) and helmet. Parents need to be present and take responsibility for children - the track is an open space and will also be used by members of the public during the session.

1.30pm - 3.30pm: Bikeability Skills & Games (Ages 5-7)
This session is for children who can cycle without stabilisers. Please bring along your own bike and helmet. It will be based in the school playground next to the track, and will focus on a range of cycling skills such as stopping safely, control, riding one-handed, spatial awareness.

1.30pm - 3.30pm: Bikeability Skills & Games (Ages 8-11) CANCELLED

This session is for children who can cycle without stabilisers. Please bring along your own bike and helmet. It will be based in the school playground next to the track, and will focus on a range of cycling skills such as stopping safely, control, riding one-handed, spatial awareness.

Anytime between 11am and 3pm - Bike Treasure Hunt

Work together as a team to solve clues and answer questions on our self-guided bike treasure hunt. Pick up a map and clues from the My Journey team and return it before the end of the day!
