The course includes:

  • In-depth teaching

  • Seminar time with keynote speakers

  • Practically-focussed workshops

  • Daily prayers

  • Free time to explore Cambridge

Programme

Dr Graham McFarlane
The Problem of Sin: relational dysfunctions – you can’t shoot ‘em and you can’t leave ‘em.

The Cross: alka seltzer, chemo or miracle? Understanding the ‘how’ of atonement.

Graham is Director of Research at the London School of Theology. He teaches doctrine and is also passionate about exploring the connections between theology and modern art. He has a particular interest in how Christian faith thinks about sacrifice and atonement in relation to the cross of Jesus and will explore this in two sessions over the first two days.

The Revd Dr Julie Lunn
The Cross and Work of Christ: Charles Wesley’s mystical approach.

Julie is Lecturer in Practical and Social Theology at the Nazarene Theological College in Manchester, a Methodist Presbyter, and has a particular interest in Wesleyan studies. Her PhD looked at the understanding of sanctification in the hymns of Charles Wesley and a version of her thesis has recently been published by Routledge.

Geraldine Allen and Sarah Rodgers
Music for Body, Mind and Soul

This workshop will aim to help participants to gain a new experience of music for themselves and in the context of their church worship by hearing more, connecting more and understanding better how music can thread through liturgy. Active singing and musical demonstrations will be part of the session. Geraldine is a professional clarinettist and Sarah is a professional composer and conductor. They worship at Swaffham Methodist Church

Is the Easter School For Me?

On the course we aim to offer high quality scholarship and teaching to those in lay ministry. Ordained ministers, from all denominations, are also welcome and those on sabbaticals regularly join us.

Participants come from a range of denominations and a variety of ministry situations.

All are welcome, but some previous study of the bible for the purposes of preaching or leading worship is assumed. However, if you don’t lead worship or preach, but feel you would benefit from the course, please do get in touch with us directly.

Price
£495 residential
£295 non-residential
