Learning Objectives:

On completing this course delegates should be

  • Informed about low intensity treatment approaches to eating disorders and their evidence base

  • Familiar with the approach of Guided Self-Help (GSH) in the context of disordered eating

  • More confident in helping someone with an eating disorder

  • Informed about how low intensity interventions sit alongside the external and specialist help available.

Overview:

This course is run in partnership between Leeds CAMHS Specialist Eating Disorder Service and the University of Leeds. It is intended for those who have attended an introductory course on eating disorders or who already work in eating disorders.

The course covers low intensity treatment approaches, their evidence base, and determining client suitability. The main part of this day will be training to use an evidence-based intervention, ‘Working to Overcome Eating Difficulties. A Guided Self-Help (GSH) Manual for Young People’.

The course price includes 2 copies of the GSH manual and diary for use when working with young people people.

A ½ day follow up on 29th April 2019 after the main teaching day offers supervision, case-based discussion, and advanced training for practitioners using the GSH manual.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This course was formally called "Eating Disorders: Low Intensity Practical Interventions"

Ideal for:

Practitioners able to offer interventions to children and young people in a pastoral or therapeutic context. The course is open to any qualified health/well-being professional who has an interest in working psychologically.

Recommendations:

To make best use of this course you need a basic understanding of eating disorders and their assessment. Consider whether you need to attend our course “Understanding Eating Disorders” prior to attending.

One day, plus a half day 6 months later

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

HEART is great for visiting by all means of transport:

By BUS – regular buses run from Leeds city centre to Headingley

By TRAIN – Leeds City Station is just over 3 miles away from Headingley. There is a train station in Headingley and Burley Park that has a limited service. HEART is a 20 minute walk from both these stations.

By CAR – access is only from North Lane, end of Bennett Road (NOT Otley Road). There is limited on site parking and on-street parking. Two disabled parking spaces are available. Parking is also available behind Sainsbury’s on North Lane which is chargeable.
