Ebonyi State Union UK and Ireland (ESU) will be hosting its 20 year Celebration Anniversary and the 1st Ebonyi International Day on Saturday 22nd October 2016. The event coincides with the 20th year since the creation of Ebonyi State in Nigeria.
Although Ebonyi state is one of the youngest states in Nigeria, the Union here in the UK has been very dynamic, engaging and forward thinking in its approach to development and expansion. The Union has worked hard from its inception to imbibe and reflect a true Nigerian ethos.
ESU was once described by the former Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida OFR CFR, as the most innovative organisation in the UK. The former CANUK Chairman, Chief Bimbo Folayan, has also described Ebonyi state as his adopted state, due to the level of support he receives from the union and the friendships he has made.
The 20th Anniversary event is guaranteed to be a star studded occasion with friends of Ebonyi State attending from all over the country, and from Nigeria as well. The founding president, Dr Mark Abani, has already informed the Union that he will be attending. All the previous presidents will also be in attendance.
ESU president, Dr Nnanna Igwe, said "the Union has come a long way in 20 years, it has accomplished numerous objectives, and reached many landmarks; the innovation and unity of the union stems from the fact that very few members ever leave the union, so experienced members are always able to contribute to its strategic planning and development”. Dr Igwe went on to say “even members who have left the UK shores and relocated back to Nigeria continue to provide advice and support”. He said he is very excited to be the union’s president at a time when it is embarking on different projects and has encouraged all friends of Ebonyi state to show their love and solidarity by attending the event.
