Pleural effusions occur as a result of several different pathologies. This session will outline how to recognise different breathing patterns, provide oxygen therapy, perform successful thoracocentesis and understand when, and how, to place chest drains. We will also discuss how to prioritise diagnostic tests and imaging to discern the cause of the effusion and therefore decide on an appropriate treatment regime.
