Description

With the kind support of the ECCM-ECFD organizers, we are happy to extend an invitation to you. “We” are the ECCOMAS Young Investigators, a committee that was founded in 2011 and ever since then tries to speak for the interests of young scientist in ECCOMAS. One of our self-assigned tasks is to modernize conference programs. At ECCM-ECFD, we will be responsible for two events: A young investigators minisymposium, to which you are of course invited to attend, and a science slam.

Now you might ask yourself: What is a science slam? Science Slam is for speakers who are fed up with looking at tired eyes and the backs of laptops in the audience. Well, it is time to wake them up! After a very succesful initial trial at the ECCOMAS YIC 2015 in Aachen, we would like to promote the format of Science Slam within ECCOMAS. Science Slam has evolved from the idea of Poetry Slam. During Science Slam, the presenters are given ten minutes to present their scientific research in an exciting and entertaining way to a general audience. Regarding media, we will try to make anything possible you need. You don’t have to stick to slides, you can have music, make the audience do gymnastics, etc., anything you want and need to convey your message. As a topic, you can choose your own research or also other, more general research. The focus is on fun and not so much on learning. Note that you can participate in Science Slam in addition to a regular talk! You can find some examples under these links:

We are still searching for participants, so please consider participating! Email your ideas and questions to the Science Slam organizers Stefanie Elgeti (elgeti@cats.rwth-aachen.de) and Alexander Popp (alexander.popp@unibw.de) or contact the science slam host and moderator Jaan-Willem Simon (jaan.simon@rwth-aachen.de), who will definitely make sure that nothing bad will happen to you during the evening!
