Echappée Escapades Rd.3 - The Royal Rumble
Fri 14 April 2017, 08:00 – 16:00 BST
The Royal Rumble.
This ride takes you south out of London quickly skirting Surrey before tackling climb after climb through Kent and Royal Tunbridge Wells. We’ll soften you up with a few longer hills before weaving our way through picturesque lanes and unleashing and onslaught of short and sharp ramps. Then we’ll finish things off with a few of our favourites as we return to the confines of the M25 and brutal finish up the ridge, think more Flèche Wallonne than Amstel Gold. This will be one truly punishing day, clocking up a little over 200km and 3200m of climbing. We didn’t pick every hill in Kent but we might as well have.
This is a road ride with a difference, this is not a sportive or a road race, rather a hark back to the reliability trial, inspired by and in honour of the Ardennes classics.
Riders will meet and sign on at Volcano Coffee Works in West Norwood with fine coffee and the tasty pastries on offer. The route will then take you through Royal Tunbridge Wells and past Velo House at the 130km mark where you can take the opportunity to refuel. To cap the day off the official route will finish at a classic English pub near the top of Layhams Rd where you’ll be able to drink away the pain.
This ride is 100% paved asphalt.
Again we are inviting people to enter a Team. When completing the entry first create and name your team or find it in the list if one of your teammates has already entered, then complete the registration. 3-6 team members are recommended (max of 8). You will be asked to register a team and then invite your team members!
This is a reliability trial, not a road race or a sportive. This ride is unsupported and you are responsible for yourself and your equipment. There will not be signposts or a friendly marshall on every corner, there will not be a broom wagon and it will be hard!
You join us at your own risk and you are expected to ride in a safe, considerate manner, both to other road users and other riders.
