Echappée Escapades Rd.4 - Butlins or Bust
Sun 30 April 2017, 07:00 – 18:00 BST
Butlins or Bust!
For Round 4 of the Escapades series we're really going to push the limits of a day ride. Dust off the cross bike or MTB (no road bikes please) for this 140km run down to everyone's favorite seaside town; Bognor Regis. We will leave the roads at Richmond Park and do our best to keep you off them until it's time for some fish and chips. Butlins or Bust is a link up of nearly 100 miles of bridleway, single-track, purpose built trails (and the odd bit of hike-a-bike) through Surrey and Sussex which totals over 2000m of vertical gain.
This might just be the hardest of them all... Bring lights, bring food, bring proper clothing.
Trains back to London are running from Barnham about 6km outside of Bognor. And remember you have the bank-holiday Monday to recover!
This is NOT a road ride, it must be done on a cyclocross bike or MTB, both will have their merits and neither is superior. This is not a sportive or a road race, rather a hark back to the reliability trial, inspired by and in honour other equally outrageous endeavours!
Riders will meet and sign on at Stir Coffee on Brixton Hill with fine coffee and the tasty pastries on offer. The route will then take you over the Surrey Hills and across the South Downs before dumping you ceremoniously into Bognor Regis!
Again we are inviting people to enter a Team. When completing the entry first create and name your team or find it in the list if one of your teammates has already entered, then complete the registration. 3-6 team members are recommended (max of 8). You will be asked to register a team and then invite your team members!
This is a reliability trial, not a road race or a sportive. This ride is unsupported and you are responsible for yourself and your equipment. There will not be signposts or a friendly marshall on every corner, there will not be a broom wagon and it will be hard!
You join us at your own risk and you are expected to ride in a safe, considerate manner, both to other road and trail users and other riders.
