Description

Echoes of Holloway Prison: Film Triple-Bill

Showcasing three very different films from the Echoes of Holloway Prison Project.

Within these Walls

A journey through the inside spaces of HMP Holloway combining still images with oral histories of former inmates. Directed by Rob Munday.

Echoes of Holloway Prison

A film telling the story of the prison through the voices of those who were held there and worked there. This film was produced by volunteers on the project working with Chocolate Films.

Postcards from Prison

Erika drew at least one postcard every day before, during and after her imprisonment at HMP Holloway. This short film tells her story and the wider story of Holloway's closure through a small selection of the postcards. See all the postcards on Instagram.

Followed by a Q&A session with Rob Munday and Roz Currie, curator of Islington Museum and the Echoes of Holloway Project

WARNING: These films include strong language and stories which viewers may find upsetting. Not suitable for under 18s.

Part of Echoes of Holloway Prison Project

Holloway Prison has been an important landmark in Islington for over 150 years. Until summer 2016 it was the largest women's prison in Britain. Many well-known prisoners have been held at the prison, but there are voices which remain unknown and unrecorded.

This project run by Islington Heritage Services, seeks to capture stories of this highly significant place meaning that, even now it has gone, the voices and echoes of Holloway Prison will remain.
