Discover, Create, and Connect

Join us for an inspiring, hands-on workshop led by award-winning textile artist and educator Alice Burnhope for a full day of nature, craft, and community spirit!

Inspired by rocks, geological formations, and the hidden textures of the natural world, Alice's work explores sustainability, community engagement, and the sensory human experience through tactile, immersive artworks.

Together, we'll explore the question: What connects you to this land and to each other?

Amplifying your voice and lived experience of living in Lewisham through creative craft activities.

What You'll Do

Drop-In Natural Dye Workshops (11:00 - 16:00)

Sessions run every half hour from 11:00 to 16:00 (capacity limits apply).

  • Paint with natural dye inks onto fabric.
  • As a keepsake, each participant can take home a hand-painted bookmark, a reminder of their contribution.
  • Contribute your piece to a collaborative textile artwork that will travel across Lewisham and later be exhibited at the Museum of the Home.

Embroidery Workshops (11:00 - 12:30 & 14:00 - 15:30)

  • Learn tactile stitches and appliqué techniques (back stitch, chain stitch, French knots).
  • Create a personal embroidery artwork reflecting your connection to Lewisham.
  • Leave with new embroidery skills, your own practice samples, and the chance to see your work as part of the final installation, which will travel across Lewisham and later be exhibited at the Museum of the Home.

(Embroidery workshops are limited to 22 participants per session, ages 10+, due to the use of needles. Booking recommended.)

Why You Should Join Us
