About this event

Experience a working canal boat dockyard

Join us at Mills Dockyard for an unforgettable day of history and charm as we celebrate Heritage Open Days. Steve Mills, the third-generation owner, will personally guide you through this remarkable place, sharing stories from his great-grandfather’s time. Explore an exhibition of family photos and memorabilia in Steve’s Tunnel workshop, alongside his classic car and visiting heritage boats. Enjoy live demonstrations by canal artists, buskers, and partake in our delicious homemade refreshments.

Explore the Canal!

Participate in walking and cycling routes along the canal to Sandiacre Lock Cottage, which is also open for the day. Discover our interactive quiz trail showcasing the lock infrastructure that allows boats to navigate the canal and the amazing heritage and environmental endowment we have in The Erewash Canal.
