Finance for Business Innovation - Workshop

Thursday 8th February – Ambleside, University of Cumbria campus, LA22 9BB, 09:00 – 15:00


  • The workshop focuses on business finance fundamentals and how small companies can finance innovation.
  • Explaining how to forecast your future financial requirements and the different forms of funding required to finance your innovations.
  • We explain the mechanics of investment, grant funding and other sources of working capital and the consequences and obligations associated with raising investment.
  • Green finance options for innovations in the sustainable and low carbon sectors will be covered.
  • A Research and Development Tax Specialist will cover tax relief benefits for innovation activities.

Whether just starting out setting up a new or spinout company or a director or manager of an established small or medium sized business in Cumbria* seeking to bring new services or products to market, this workshop is for you.

Workshop facilitators

Al Wilson is the Managing Director at The Centre for Leadership Performance a not-for-profit private limited company working to develop Cumbria's leaders for today and tomorrow. Al has spent the last 25 years delivering leadership and personal development programmes in the corporate, public and third sector. He believes that leadership has the potential to make a positive difference to organisations, people and communities and he has a passion to help and support people to grow, learn and develop.

Frank Allison is the Managing Director of FIS360 Ltd. which has a successful track record of supporting the commercialisation of early stage technologies and taking them through to a commercial offering, generating funding and returning revenues to a range of clients (inc. academic institutions, SME’s and large corporates). Frank has spent over 15 years commercialising early stage technology in Europe, North America and the Middle East. He is passionate about working with entrepreneurs to see them and their technologies achieve commercial reality

Eco-innovation Cumbria

Eco-innovation workshops: Open to small and medium sized enterprises based in Cumbria, to facilitate business innovation and commercial success. Some topics will have a focus on eco-innovation, to support innovating products or services or improving processes to deliver low carbon and environmental benefits.
