Eco Printing a Silk Scarf
Event Information
About this event
Introduction to eco printing using leaves. You will be guided through the process of nature-based printing by demonstrating the mordanting and steaming involved of the fabric. The process is unpredictable and results in a subtle colour palette suggestive of alchemy and traditional fabric staining. You will experiment wrapping leaf collections into bundles, producing a cotton sample, silk scarf and paper samples.
Please bring along with you a good selection of leaves to dye with, I suggest selecting fallen leaves on the ground (or from your own or friend's garden); oak, birch, chestnut, brambles (blackberry), Rose, dogwood and smoke bush leaves. Waxy leaves and flowers don't produce good results however hydrangea and marigolds often can.
You will make a Silk Twill Scarf measuring 180 x 45cm and also eco print on watercolour paper (to make your own cards).
This workshop is suitable for those with no prior knowledge of textiles or dyeing techniques. Please note: Clothing is at risk of staining so please dress appropriately in an apron, bring rubber gloves and also a plastic bag to take away wet items.
These workshops take place in my home studio and my garden.
4 places per workshop day available
(please note I cannot run the workshop unless 4 people attend)
