Event description

Description

Explore the process of eco-printing on this one day workshop and create interesting textures and designs on paper using natural dyes and locally foraged plants. Eco printing is an endlessly fascinating process whereby heat and moisture is applied and combined with plant material to produce marks and prints. Learn the two main eco printing processes and how natural mordants and natural dyes assist in the process of creating botanical imagery.
This workshop is designed to provide you with the basic knowledge of the process of paper eco printing and allows you to leave with the confidence to continue experimenting at home.

What experience do I need?

No previous experience is necessary. The course is for beginners, or anyone looking to refresh their skills. Those with an understanding of natural dyes may wish to learn an interesting new way of using them in printing processes.

What will I make?

You will leave with three concertina eco-print books, although there is also the option to create individual cards or printed images that can be framed, or a combination of all of these. This can be decided on the day and there will be examples to show the different processes.

Who is my tutor?

Your tutors are Sue Ripley and Isobel Denton. Their specialist backgrounds cover the areas of textiles, printmaking and costume, and they have numerous years of experience in creating and running practical-based workshops at Huddersfield University. They have now ventured in to running their own business under the name of abitmoreink where their current work is inspired by nature and sustainability, and includes ecoprinting and creating exciting surfaces onto both paper and fabric.

Find them on Facebook and Instagram @abitmoreink

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials will be provided, although you can also bring some of your own leaves to try if you wish.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Once booked, you cannot transfer to another course.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
