Event description

Description

Part of the Dormice training programme. Ideal for Rangers working in or managing woodlands or would like to work towards their class 1 dormice licence.

This was also advertised in "The Beautiful South" winter newsletter. The South East Region are launching a new range of training days which specifically help rangers, wardens and volunteers accumulate evidence working towards individual Natural England class licences.

Please note that this workshop focuses on the theory side of things - for the practical side, please see the workshop on either the 15th or 19th January. If you would like to work towards your licence, then attending both days is recommended.

This event is provided to prepare delegates for a class dormice licence. Delegates must contact the organiser in advance to indicate their wish to work towards a class licence so the organisers can prepare the correct number of evidence handbooks.

The course will take place in the Management Suite, Upper gallery, in the ‘Quarry’ conference room.

We will cover the following: Current legislation relevant to dormice; Survey techniques and field signs; dormice ecology; and Dormice habitat and Management.

We will then drive the five minutes to the site (depending on delegate numbers additional vehicles may be needed. There is good parking for all types of vehicle) carry out a practical inspection of dormice boxes.

Delegates must wear appropriate outdoor workwear, hi vis jackets and sturdy footwear. The site in question is exposed to the elements in places.

All delegates will be given a logbook (if working towards their class licence) and receive a certificate of attendance.

Delegates must meet the organiser (Phil Bolton) at the boardwalk adjacent to the ‘Pirate Castle’ Marks and Spencer Car Park at 10:00am.

Tea, Coffee and biscuits will be available at periods throughout the day, but you need to bring your own lunch.

For more information about the event, please contact Phil Bolton on 07917147400 or email awildthing@btconnect.com This is also the contact if you wish to work towards your licence.

Fee: CMA members free. Non-members £40
