Embedding Ecology within the Art curriculum will change the way we tackle today’s climate crisis. By linking science with human emotion we can deepen environmental understanding whilst expanding artistic technique and meaning.

We invite Secondary School Art Teachers to join us for an afternoon of talks, practical workshops, networking and resources. Brought to you by artists and ecologists showcasing the importance and necessity of interdisciplinary learning.

13:00 - 13:10: Welcome from the British Ecological Society and workshop sign up

13:10 - 13:40: Opening talk with time for questions from Dr Ros Gray, Programme Director of the MA Art and Ecology and Co-Director of the Centre for Art and Ecology at Goldsmiths, University of London

13:40 - 14:40: Workshop round 1

14:40 - 14:50: Refreshment break

14:50 - 15:50: Workshop round 2

15:50 - 16:10: Jigsaw activity, chance to feedback to others what you learnt from your workshop

16:10 - 16:40: Talk with time for questions from Lauren Cook, practicing Ecologist and award winning Artist

16:40 - 17:00: Q&A with speakers and workshop leaders including;

  • Dr Francis Gilbert, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Educational Studies and Interim Co-Head of Educational Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London
  • Dr Miranda Matthews, Senior Lecturer and Head of Centre for Arts and Learning at Goldsmiths, Univeristy of London
  • Henrietta Patience, Lecturer in Education and Subject Leader of PGCE Art and Design at Goldsmiths, Univeristy of London
  • Eleanor Hamblen, Formal Learning Offier at Horniman Museum and Gardens

17:00 - 17:30: Networking drinks in the Centre for Art and Ecology where you will be also given access to all of the resources from the event plus more.

Workshop information: There will be 4 practical workshops to choose from on the day. The same workshops will run in session 1 and 2. Details of each workshops will be available on the day and will work on a first come, first serve basis at the workshop sign up at the start of the event so we suggest arriving promptly at 13:00 to not miss out.

As an attendee you will receive free a resource pack after the event containing resources from every workshop regardless of which two you attended, plus many more learning and teaching resources.
