Description

Ecology Workshop: Cambridge

Target Audience: Developers, housebuilders, planners, architects and project managers

Refreshments and lunch included.

Experience on numerous projects over the past few seasons has highlighted a mixed understanding of ecological and environmental issues in the planning process. Combined with inconsistent responses from Local Planning Authorities and stakeholders this very often does result in last minute delays and additional costs. In many circumstances these unanticipated delays and costs can be predicted, planned for and potentially avoided.

All of us over the last few years will no doubt have experienced delays and frustrations through the Natural England licencing process, in particular for Great Crested Newts and Bats. Natural England is very aware of these issues and following consultation last year is now expanding the types of licence available, in particular through the Low Impact Class Licences (LICL) for bats and great crested newts available to experienced consultants with earned recognition. This was further recognised in the recent Housing White Paper which indicated that the Government would roll out a strategic approach to the habitat management of protected species and district licensing for Great Crested Newts.

Our aim is to provide a wide-ranging technical ecological update and outline how these issues should be best approached and addressed through the planning process. In many cases Local Authorities will work through the mechanism of a simple decision tree and our aim will be to follow this structure through the planning process from start to finish, and conclude with considering how best these issues can be addressed. The method aims to deliver real sustainability and net biodiversity gain as well as meeting the requirements of the planning process and critical stakeholders.

To ensure engaged discussions we will provide a balance of presentations and workshop sessions. The workshop sessions will be structured around case study examples selected to highlight key issues and a range of project types and scale.

We will provide background and supporting information including copies of the presentations, aerial photos, relevant papers, related documents and copies of case studies. These will be provided on memory stick with useful links to further material and the resources page on the LGL website.

In order to make these events as valuable and productive as possible invitations are restricted to an invited audience of developers, housebuilders, planners, architects and project managers, with a limit of 24 delegates per workshop. If you are unable to book tickets due to places having been filled please contact us and we will add you to a reserve list for cancellations or invitations to our next workshops.

The presentations will be provided by James Hildreth, Director / Principal Ecological Consultant, Louise Floyd, Ecological Consultant and John Lockhart, Chairman.
