This course will be run over two half days, as follows:

Tuesday 29th September - 9.30 - 12.30, and Wednesday 30th September - 9.30.12.30.

The course is delivered online and is fully interactive with whiteboards, surveys, slides, videos and Q&A and is designed to provide Defra staff with an accessible introduction to economics.

This course is designed to provide Defra staff with an accessible introduction to cost-benefit analysis. The training aims to make staff more confident in using cost-benefit concepts in their day-to-day work and encourage effective engagement with Defra economists.

The course has been developed in line with the Policy Profession Standard framework for professional development.1

This course is relevant to Section 1.4 Analysis and use of evidence – Economics at Level 1, in particular framework standards:

  • Understands the basics and importance of economic appraisal in policy analysis, including key principles set out in the Green Book

  •  Understands commonly used economic terminology and theory relevant to the policy area
