Welcome to Ecstatic Dance Somerset!

We are Josh and Raquel and we are excited to be launching a series of monthly Ecstatic Dance events in central Bristol on every second Saturday evening of the month.

Our intention is to provide an inclusive dance space that welcomes people of all backgrounds and dancing experience aged 18+.

We invite you to come and join us in sober community and express yourself in this wonderful growing movement practice.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

  • 3 hours of live music
  • Two live back to back Ecstatic Dance DJ sets designed to move your body through different tempos and emotions
  • A facilitated embodied warm-up
  • A relaxation to wind down
  • Complimentary & optional Tea social to chat and connect with other dancers

WHAT IS ECSTATIC DANCE?

Ecstatic Dance is an embodied practice which invites us to connect with ourselves and explore our individuality through free movement. When we allow ourselves to drop into spontaneous movement, we find we can become more aligned with our energy, emotions and spirit.

There’s no right or wrong way to move here. No planned steps. This is a held space to express what’s alive in you, to move how you feel and welcome self discovery.

Many people attend Ecstatic Dance to unwind, release tension, heal, connect with others and be in community.

GUIDELINES:

  • No booze: Ecstatic Dance is a drug and alcohol free mindfulness practice
  • No shoes: We invite dancers to dance barefoot as it helps us to connect with the ground or with gripped socks/specialised dance shoes
  • No chit-chat: Words take us back into our heads! Please join us for the tea social after the dance if you’d like to chat with others
  • No tech: We encourage dancers to be present. If you need to use your phone, please do so outside
  • Stay dressed: Tops and bottoms on for all genders please
  • No fragrances: Please refrain from wearing any fragrances when attending as some dancers may be sensitive/allergic
  • Consent & Bounderies: Please be mindful and respectful of the personal space of other dancers in the room. Dancers take full responsibility for communicating their boundaries and expressing their yes’s and no’s in the shared dance space. If you’re unsure it’s a yes, it’s a no!

WHAT TO BRING:

  • A reusable water bottle
  • Comfortable clothes to move in
  • Warm clothing/blanket for relaxation
  • Curiosity and an open mind

Raquel (DJ Amada) is a conscious dance DJ whose musical journeys draw inspiration from her Latin American heritage and world travels. Her musical signature is funky, soulful, groovy eclectic sets incorporating beats from a whole plethora of traditional and electronic music.

Since breaking into the scene in 2022 she's been part of festivals such as Noisily and Buddhafield, played at Ministry of Sound in London and for ED communities around the UK.

Her mission is to invite your authentic rhythm and presence on the dance floor and connect with your body's intuitive expression through movement for healing and release.
