What is Ecstatic Dance?
Ecstatic Dance is a practice of free-form movement that encourages uninhibited expression through a wide range of music styles. In recent years, it has grown in popularity as a way to exercise, relieve stress, and connect with oneself and others. With no judgment, competition, or set choreography, Ecstatic Dance offers both relaxation and personal growth, providing a refreshing alternative to mainstream club and disco culture.
What to Expect?
Freestyle dance journey to a precisely curated live DJ set, supported by gentle guidance and facilitation. Through movement and music, we invite you into a practice that helps you express your emotions and explore your inner landscape. A soothing sound bath follows the dance, and at the end of the event we offer space to connect with fellow dancers, make new friends, and grow our Tunbridge Wells tribe.
What type of music do you play?
Music is the heartbeat of Ecstatic Dance, spanning rhythms, styles, and tempos from across the globe. Unlike typical club nights, our DJs break the mould, weaving tribal, folk, electronic, and live sounds into a journey that flows from meditative soundscapes to pounding house, techno, drum & bass, and beyond.
What are the benefits of dancing?
Dancing is a fun way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. It can improve muscle tone and cardiovascular health, increase flexibility, mobility, endurance, and overall fitness, reduce stress, combat depression, boost confidence, enhance social skills, and the list goes on.
Human Connections
In the age of AI, social media, and remote work, many of us are feeling increasingly isolated and disconnected. Conscious dance helps us build authentic human connections, unplug from the noise, switch off completely, and stay grounded.
Who is it for? Are children allowed to join?
We welcome everyone, regardless of age, gender, religion, or background. Our dances are family-friendly, and children under 12 can join for free when accompanied by an adult. As Ecstatic Dance is a practice and a moving meditation, we kindly ask that children are supervised at all times to help maintain the flow and respect of the space for all participants.
What are the guidelines?
Dance barefoot (comfy clothes recommended), no alcohol or drugs, and no talking during the danc, let your body do the speaking! All forms of expression are welcome here, and there’s no right or wrong way to move.
What do bring/wear?
Dress in comfortable clothes you can move freely in, and bring layers to adjust as you warm up or cool down. Most dancers come dressed much like they would for a yoga or fitness class or something light and relaxed as if heading to a festival dance. We dance barefoot (or in gripped socks), and it’s a good idea to bring water or a refreshing drink to stay hydrated.
For the safety of our participants, we deny entry to anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
We don't offer any refunds, but if you can no longer make it, you can transfer your ticket to a future date.
By purchasing a ticket, you acknowledge and accept that Ecstatic Dance Tunbridge Wells is not responsible for any injury or harm that may occur during the session. You agree to take full responsibility for your own health, well-being, and personal belongings throughout the class. Thank you.
