The Europa Institute at the University of Edinburgh is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the launch of its new FUTURES Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. To mark these special milestones, the Europa Institute and Centre are organising a major conference that will bring together an international group of leading scholars of the European Union to discuss challenges and opportunities for ‘European Futures’.

We now wish to invite interested parties to the conference's keynote lecture by Professor Joseph H. H. Weiler.

J.H.H. Weiler is University Professor at NYU Law School and Senior Fellow at the Center for European Studies, Harvard. He has formerly served as President of the European University Institute, Florence and the Manley Hudson Chair of International Law at Harvard Law School. He is Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of International Law (EJIL) and co-Chief Editor of the International Journal of Constitutional Law (ICON). He is recipient of several honorary doctorates in law, political science and theology including one from the University of Edinburgh. He is currently completing a book entitled Reconsidering the Trial of Jesus - A Reading for Our Times.

Venue

We are delighted to host this evening in the beautiful Playfair Library Hall at Old College, South Bridge, Edinburgh. The main route of access to the venue requires entering via steps up to the building's reception. From there, the main staircase or the lift will take attendees up to the Playfair Library Hall. There is an additional option for those requiring lift access from street level. Please ensure that you notify us of this requirement in advance.
