Event description

Description

The Community Empowerment Act 2015 requires Local Authorities to prepare a Food Growing Strategy by February 2020. This gathering is for anyone interested in community food growing who wants to find out what the Edinburgh Food Growing Strategy can do for us, and work together to shape it. It is also an opportunity to share ideas for promoting and supporting a network of community growing projects - what do we need, and what would help, to make Edinburgh a food growing city?

There will be a series of discussions, including:

  • What is a Food Growing Strategy and what opportunities are opened up by recent legislation?

  • How can we ensure that the benefits of community growing projects are more widely recognised - and better funded?

  • What is our vision for a food growing city?

  • Where are we now - what are the successes and limitations of community food growing in Edinburgh?

  • What can we learn from the experience of other cities, in Scotland and elsewhere?

  • What do we want from the Food Growing Strategy - key recommendations and priorities?

  • How can community growers work together more effectively in the common interest?

Lunch will be provided and there will be plenty of time for informal chat and networking.
