Sat, 3 Jun 2017, 12:30 – Sun, 4 Jun 2017, 12:00 BST
We invite you on an overnight wild camping microadventure along the rugged East Lothian coast; a great way to escape the city and get back to nature.
Just 30 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh; explore the history of pioneering explorer & conservationist John Muir, share food around the campfire, and sleep out under the stars.
Get out of town and find some fresh perspective, with two experienced outdoor facilitators to be your guides. Drift off to sleep to the lull of waves on the shore, wake up refreshed by the sea breeze and be home in time for Sunday lunch. Let yourself be restored and inspired by a change of scene; a 24hr overnight wild camping adventure.
We will be spending the night at a seldom explored spot on the wild and beautiful East Lothian coast. After walking together along the coastline from Dunbar, we’ll create a basecamp between the forest and dunes of John Muir Country Park.
This overnight microadventure costs £120 per person - Places are limited to 6 participants per trip.
We are offering a promotional deal where if you book with a friend you can both save £10 off the full ticket price. There is one concessionary space available on each of our trips, please contact us for details. All bookings are made through Eventbrite.

Your guides are passionate outdoor cooks, experienced at serving up delicious feasts cooked over the fire. We work with primarily seasonal, local ingredients, to create mouthwatering, adventurous flavours. You're in for a treat!
Please advise us if you are vegetarian, vegan or have any other dietary requirements when you book, and we'll do our best to cater for them.
About Sleeping Arrangements
We invite you on a microadventure; the simplest way to getaway into nature overnight. We will be providing some bivvy bags and encourage you to give sleeping outside a try.
A bivvy bag is a bit like a waterproof cover for your sleeping bag; they're discreet, light and allow you to get in touch with the elements (more on that here, thanks Alastair!) For those for whom this sounds a bit too wild, we can provide a choice of your own small tent or a space in the canvas bell tent.
Please bring along the following:
- Warm Sleeping bag + mat
- (Head) Torch
- Sturdy shoes
- Warm clothing - layers are good!
- Warm hat + gloves
- Spare socks
- Waterproof jacket
- Toothbrush + any other personal toiletries
- Cup, Cutlery + Plate or Bowl
- Water bottle
We will provide everything else!
If don't have a sleeping bag or sleeping mat of your own, we can arrange the hire of this equipment at an additional cost of £12. Just include as part of your booking and we will hire + collect it for you, ready for use on the day.
Meeting Point + Transport
Arrival: We will meet at DUNBAR train station at 12.30 on Saturday. The Scotrail train departs Edinburgh Waverley at 12.08, to arrive at 12.35, and a ticket costs £16.80 return. If you plan to drive there are various car parking options in Dunbar too.
Departure: On Sunday morning, we'll have you back at the station in time to catch the 11.38 train back to Edinburgh. You'll be home for Sunday lunch!
No-one enjoys a cold night in a soggy sleeping bag, so if it's forecast to rain all night; we'll reschedule the trip.
We will decide if the weather forecast warrants a change of plan 48 hours before the trip. If this is the case, we will contact you offering the option of joining the rescheduled trip on new dates, or a full refund.
In the event that a participant needs to cancel their booking for the microadventure, refunds of the full payment (minus the deposit) can be made up to 5 days before the trip. (Please note that the deposit is none refundable unless Living Alive cancels the trip.) We cannot guarantee any refund if the participant cancels within 5 days before the microadventure unless there are exceptional circumstances. All such refund decisions are at the discretion of Living Alive.
Medical Conditions / Allergies / Anything else we should know about
Please let us know before booking if you have any medical conditions that we should be aware of, which may impact your ability to join this microadventure. It is your responsibility to make sure we are fully informed.
