Event description

Description

Dr Tilo Kunath has kindly agreed to give the following talk:

Title:Where are we at with a cell therapy for Parkinson’s?”

Abstract:
The promise of a stem cell therapy for Parkinson’s have been around for over 10 years now. How close are we to realising this therapy today, how will it work, and who with benefit?
I will outline the science underpinning a cell replacement therapy produced from two stem cell sources, (i) human embryonic stem cells, and (ii) induced pluripotent stem cells, and describe how this cell therapy would work in practice. I will also give an overview of the international projects that are closest to the first-in-human clinical trials, and how Scotland will fit into these effortsDr Tilo Kunath has kindly agreed to give a talk reviewing recent and current work in the area of cell replacement strategy. Title to be announced.
