About this event
Join the ETAG team and colleagues from across Edinburgh’s tourism and hospitality industry for a volunteering session with the rangers from The Water of Leith Conservation Trust.
This session is part of ETAG’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, and will be our inaugural Edinburgh Tourism Industry Volunteering event, which we plan to run annually. As it happens, the Water of Leith Visitor Centre is also celebration 25 years in 2025!
Our collective task for the morning will be to carry out practical tasks that enhance and improve the bottom end of the river at Coalie Park, which this year has seen a major redevelopment into a renewed community space for all.
There will be opportunities to get involved in a range of tasks that supports the work of the Trust, including: helping to keep the walkway clear and open by trimming back overgrowing vegetation, sweeping up leaves and litter picking.
In addition, if the weather allows, we’ll be aiming to paint benches that have been installed as part of the Coalie Park project.
As one of the most heavily populated parts of the city, this section of the walkway is extremely popular for people seeking time in nature and for a car-free route through the city.
In addition to this, The Water of Leith is Edinburgh’s a significant wildlife corridor in the city. It is home to a fantastic diversity of wildlife using both the river and its banks. Animals such as Otters, Kingfishers, Dippers, Herons, Badgers, Roe Deer, Bats and hundreds of different types of aquatic invertebrates, plants, wildflowers and trees all dependent on the Water of Leith Valley.
So join us, to support the meaningful work of The Water of Leith rangers, in keeping this important walkway clean and clear, for residents and visitors to continue enjoying.
