Working With SQL Server Data Types -
Choosing the correct data type is very important, so this session will recap what is available and what effect a bad data type choice can have on your system.
Bio: Martin Bell was a SQL Server MVP for many years until he stepped out of the fast lane and onto his bike. Although older and greyer he is still strikingly handsome, modest and side splittingly funny; his one man show about his failed attempts to join the Chippendales has never made it to the Fringe

SQL Server Cardinality Estimation - Real-life Issues after Upgrading to SQL 2014
SQL Server 2014 introduced the first change to the Cardinality Estimator since version 7.0 ! In most cases this has led to better cardinality estimates, however this is not the case for all queries, which can suffer regressions in performance. This session covers real-life query execution issues faced after upgrading to SQL Server 2014 and the techniques used to work-around these.
Bio: Rob Carrol has been working with SQL Server since 2000 initially as a database developer, then latterly in a DBA and consultancy capacity. Rob previously worked for Microsoft as a SQL Server Premier Field Engineer specialising in performance tuning and database troubleshooting before leaving in 2012 to become an independent consultant working with large financial and IT Services clients.
