Event speakers:
Keynote speaker: Prof Vicky Cowling - "RNA cap methyltransferase in neurons" - Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute / Beatson Institute
Neurons have unique morphologies and functions, and utilise specialised mechanisms of gene regulation. We have found that the RNA cap methyltransferase, RNMT, has functions adapted to support stimulation-dependent gene expression in neurons. RNMT functions are limited by CAMKII-dependent phosphorylation following stimulation. The impact of these RNMT mechanisms will be discussed.
Mohd Ahmad, PhD student - "Inference of causal effects of codon usage, nucleotide, and dinucleotide content on gene expression in mammals" - Kudla Lab, Institute of Genetics and Cancer, University of Edinburgh
Dr Fiona Haward - "Streamlined iCLIP (siCLIP): A refined fluorescent iCLIP protocol to define protein-RNA interactions" - Sibley Lab, Institute of Quantitative Biology, Biochemistry & Biotechnology, University of Edinburgh
