Edith Gardens Nature Reserve

Citizen Zoo has been working at the council-owned Edith Gardens Nature Reserve since 2018. With the help of volunteers, we have given the site a new lease of life.

The site is 0.44ha in size and is a Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation in London. Previously, it had been left overgrown but is now once again a thriving nature reserve with mixed habitats, including woodland, ponds, a mini-meadow and a bee bank.

In 2024, we secured funding to restore the site for wildlife and make it fully accessible to all. Thanks to our excellent volunteers the reserve's paths have now been fully cleared and re-smoothed for wheelchair access.

Join us to continue improving the site's biodiversity, creating new habitat and allowing conservation measures such as our living native hedgerow and wildlife ponds to thrive.

Where to meet

The Edith Gardens Nature Reserve has one entrance at the tip of Edith Gardens road, just off of Raeburn Avenue. See map for details.

There is parking available on Raeburn Avenue, which is on the left-hand side as you approach Edith Gardens road, just before Meldone Close, also on the left.

It is easy to get there via public transport. The K2 and 665 go along Raeburn Avenue and if you are coming from Kingston, you’ll want the “Edith Gardens” bus stop which is 20m north of the entrance. From the other direction, the stop is also called Edith Gardens. The site is a 20-minute walk from Berrylands Station.

What to bring:

  • OLD CLOTHES – that you don’t mind getting dirty - preferably long sleeves and trousers.
  • COAT - you never know when it might rain
  • SUN CREAM - with temperatures high, this is important
  • WELLIES or TRAINERS – or just shoes you don't mind getting dirty
  • WATER - again, with temperatures high, this is important
