Why this theme?

Parents and teachers know all too well that, for many in our communities, there is a growing gap between the incessant noise of notifications, and the actual value of digital technology.

The dreams of Sci Fi futures, of frictionless learning, seem a long way from many school leaders and teachers. Instead, many are overwhelmed by email inboxes, data driven accountability, and expensive electronic systems; distracted from the core purpose of caring and educating children.

The results? A recruitment and retention crisis. A huge increase in mental and physical health issues for both staff and children. Budgets and systems strained and stretched.

But, there are positive ways forward. Looking beyond the computing curriculum, this conference will consider how digital technology can support a less stressful, more supportive and sustainable model of school improvement.
