Event description

Description

Welcome to #EduCamp19, a new Education Learning Festival!

The theme will be creativity and playful learning, with more details to be announced shortly.

This will be run largely on unconference / open space principles, with the programme created largely by the people booking, though we have some activities already in mind (see below!). For fuller details of the programme, travel information, site information and more, see the main website: https://educampuk.wordpress.com/

Example activities:

  • Open space or unconference style workshops & discussions (whoever turns up can pitch a session).
  • Learning games (see / share examples and create your own).
  • Analogue "Storify" (we'll create a book of analogue / offline tweets, comments, pictures, etc throughout and share it afterwards).
  • Micro-teach tent (plan a short lesson, deliver it, and receive peer-feedback on your session).
  • Zine / chapbook making

Anyone coming is free to pitch a session they'd like to run, or suggest activities that we can try to arrange for you. The more people coming, the more sessions we'll have running.

Exact details of this event will depend on the number of people who book... the more people who book, the more variety of activities we can have going on during the camp. The intention is to have a couple of pre-planned sessions timetabled with guest trainers, with other activities being more open space in nature. We'll flesh out this page as more things get firmed up, as well as providing extra information at https://educampuk.wordpress.com/

Anyone vaguely associated with education, particularly Higher and Further education settings, is welcome to come, along with friends and family, though unfortunately not pets (the site does not allow dogs). If you're a lecturer, librarian, learning developer, academic skills tutor, learning technologist, etc., then please come along! The event will be primarily catered, with an evening meal and breakfast provided (but not lunch!). If enough children and partners come along, we'll investigate extra activities aimed explicitly at children (lots of activities are available on site! There may be a small extra cost depending on the activity).

At the moment, we expect to start early afternoon during the Thursday, run a variety of activities during the day. People can camp onsite (you need to provide your own kit!) or stop in the shared accomodation (sleeping bag required), activities will continue Friday morning and we'll finish Friday lunchtime. This timetable will be firmed up as the event gets closer.

There are also hotel rooms a short drive away, but not onsite. There is a train station about 4 or 5 miles away (we'll try and enable taxi sharing, or more help if possible...), plus plenty of parking onsite.

We have a indoor area for activities, plus we plan to have large tents outdoors for sessions to be run in. There are toilets / washrooms onsite, but facilities are fairly basic. There is parking available onsite.

The small charge will cover hire of the campsite and some other basic expenses. Depending on numbers booking, it may also cover some extras like transport from the nearest train station, but we don't want to confirm any extras until we've covered the basic costs! We might be able to offer a few tickets for free too, please get in touch if you need one. Most tickets are per person, not per group or family, please pick the "family ticket" or "bunkhouse room" for a group.
