Education Seminar Series

Enhancing assessment and feedback practices in higher education: A pragmatic and research-informed approach
By Professor Carol Evans, NTF PFHEA, University of Southampton

Professor Carol Evans will demonstrate how a research-informed self-regulatory assessment and feedback framework (EAT, Evans, 2016) can be used to promote staff and student engagement in assessment and feedback practices.

This interactive workshop is relevant to any colleague interested in enhancing assessment practice be it at the individual discipline, faculty and/or university level. Lessons in scaling up will be shared and especially in trying to develop a programme level assessment approach.

The importance of a critical pedagogic approach will be emphasized along with the principles underpinning the Framework that promotes inclusive assessment practices. As part of this discussion, the complex nature of student engagement and student learning outcomes will be considered in order to explore how we measure the impact of our practice on student and staff learning gains. The key dimensions of the Framework will be unpacked and examples of use at a variety of scales considered.
