Event description

Description

Education is one of the key drivers in increasing the social mobility and economic productivity of South Gloucestershire’s future adult population.

Whilst South Gloucestershire pupils generally do well in the earlier stages of education, performance deteriorates as children get older. Performance is particularly poor at Key Stage 4.

One of the trends associated with lower educational outcomes is persistent absence or ‘broken week’ attendance. This non- attendance is concentrated in areas of deprivation known locally as Priority Neighbourhoods. Evidence shows that students with a high % of broken weeks’ attendance make least progress.

Please come along and help us to have discussions around and work together on local plans to reduce broken week attendance. We need educational providers and local community groups to work as one team.

The research is just the start of this journey and we need you.

We will discuss the research in workshop groups and hear from some relevant speakers. We are looking forward to you being part of the team taking this work forward and launching our piece of research to you to support your aims.
