Fri, 28 Apr 2017, 10:00 – Sat, 29 Apr 2017, 17:00
OAKLEY village is honouring the bravery of Edward Brooks VC in WW1 with the laying and unveiling at Oakley Church of one of only two commemorative stones in Buckinghamshire on Friday the 28th April.
It's a big weekend for the village with local dignitaries attending including the Lord Lieutenant representing Her Majesty the Queen. The village hall will be open on both Friday and Saturday 1000 to 1700, where a large exhibition represents all three services and highlights one WW1 VC recipient from each Service. Maps, and stories of residents who lived in the village at the time, will be displayed. Local schoolchildren are also producing Items for the exhibition. Refreshments will be available in the hall on both days with profits going to the Church and local charities.
The Friday will include a march past by The Rifles, bands, unveiling in the Churchyard of the stone dedicated to Edward Brooks and much more to be announced when details are confirmed.
Keep your eye on the local and county press for the latest information on this very important event, which is sponsored by the HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND.
